The Customer
The City University of Seattle is a highly-rated private university located in Seattle, Washington. City University was founded in 1973 as City College by a group of business leaders and educators in the Seattle area led by Michael A. Pastore with an original mission dedicated to providing higher education for working adults.
In 1982, City College changed its name to City University of Seattle. Since then, the university has grown to consist of undergraduate and graduate programs across six areas.
The Problem
- No proper support and customization services.
- Problems encountered with the data migration process from one environment to another.
- Issues with the customization of the production environment as the client wanted segregation of all entities (components, Dataverse Table, Multiple App in one solution, etc.) with their dependencies into a single solution.
- Difficulty in the creation of a new portal for the University’s alumni using the Power Platform (either Model-Driven App or Canvas app).

Folio3 Solution
Folio3 provides Power Apps solutions that are based on the MS Power Platform. Power Apps provides a rapid low code development environment for building custom apps for business needs. It has services, connectors, and a scalable data service and app platform (Microsoft Dataverse) to allow simple integration and interaction with existing data. Power Apps enables the creation of web and mobile applications that run on all devices.
To resolve the issue regarding the production environment, we suggested following these steps for segregation.
Create a new solution.
Add its existing entities as per the app in this solution.
Add all their dependent objects.
Install dependency in production environment.
Publish all customization.
Export this solution.
Now Import this exported solution to the production.
By following these steps above, the City University was able to segregate all its apps and successfully migrate the data safely and efficiently.
Folio3 created a Model-Driven App and Canvas app for the alumni portal as a prototype to overcome the second issue encountered by the City University.
